Gender odds on the Digtoise and Foxcicle pair
Both Digtoise and Foxcicle hatch 50/50 male, so every one you catch is a coin flip and two of each covers it. Smokie comes out 50/50 too. Two of the same gender produces nothing at all, however right the pair is.

Paldex entry
“The black flames are merely warm to the touch, but anything left in contact with them slowly melts from the inside. Hold some cheese over them, and it becomes a true delicacy.”
Smokie is a Dark-type pal with 260 parent pairs in Palworld 1.0, and not one of them is a special one-off recipe. Wild ones sit at level 30-66. Shortest chain from a starter box: 3 steps. Best jobs: Gathering 2.
Partner skill
Dig, Smokie! Dig!. When activated, uses its sharp sense of smell to detect nearby Chromite. While fighting together, Chromite acquisition increases by +100%.

The 120 easiest of 260 parent pairs for Smokie
Every pair that produces Smokie averages to its breed rank of 1760, and 260 pairs in the Palworld 1.0 table hit that number. Opposite genders, cake in the breeding farm, then the egg goes in an egg incubator. Some are two wild catches. The rest need a breed first.

Why an older Smokie combo list won't work
Pre-1.0 guides name a recipe. The 1.0 table works on averages: a pair produces Smokie when the two parents' breed ranks average to its 1760. 260 different pairs hit that average, which is why a page showing five or six rows is quoting a sample rather than an answer.
Ours is the game's real 44,849-pair table, shipped verbatim rather than approximated from the rank formula. The 19,044 figure still in circulation is 138 squared, the pre-1.0 roster of base forms counted as ordered pairs, so it measures something else. One pair shows the difference. Every calculator downstream of palcalc ships Panthalus and Panthalus as breeding true, and the game's own tables prove it cannot, because that pair yields Aegidron.
The shortest breeding path to Smokie
3 breeding steps from a starter box reach Smokie. Eikthyrdeer and Hangyu make Eikthyrdeer Terra, then Dumud and Eikthyrdeer Terra make Dumud Gild, then Dumud Gild and Valentail make Smokie.
- 1
- 2
- 3
Measured from an early-game box. Anything you already own further along cuts steps off, so load your save and it routes from there.
Smokie passive skill odds per egg
A clean four-passive pool across both parents gives 10.0% per Smokie egg, which is about 22 eggs for a 90% shot at all four. Every extra passive skill on either parent lowers it.
| You want | Parent pool | Per egg | Eggs for 90% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 specific passives | 4 | 10.0% | 22 |
| 4 specific passives | 5 | 2.0% | 114 |
| 4 specific passives | 6 | 0.7% | 345 |
| 3 specific passives | 3 | 30.0% | 7 |
| 3 specific passives | 4 | 15.0% | 15 |
| 3 specific passives | 5 | 6.0% | 38 |
| 2 specific passives | 2 | 60.0% | 3 |
| 2 specific passives | 4 | 25.0% | 9 |
One junk passive on a parent can double the eggs you need. The per-egg column is the chance every passive skill you want lands on the egg, with random extras allowed. The roll behind these numbers is worked through in the Palworld passive inheritance odds guide, and the planner ranks the pairs in your own box by them.
Is Smokie worth breeding, or should you catch one?
Catch one. Smokie spawns from level 30, and the alpha at level 60 hands you a guaranteed one on the way past. The shortest chain from a starter box runs 3 steps, and the cheapest pair still needs a level 17 catch. With 260 pairs on the list, one half of one of them is probably in your box already.
Breed it anyway once you own one. A pair is how you roll passive skills; catching is how you get the species.
Where to find Smokie in the wild
Smokie spawns in Deserted Ash Plateau and 12 other areas, at level 56-62. Another 455 of its spawn points sit outside every named region. Its alpha stands at level 60.
| Region | Level | Spawn points |
|---|---|---|
| Deserted Ash Plateau | 56-62 | 199 |
| Scorched Ashland | 50-57 | 169 |
| Scorched Hill | 55-62 | 162 |
| Withered Seaside | 50-57 | 135 |
| The Oculus Gate, Tower in Sight | 50-63 | 99 |
| Frozen Coral Hill | 62-63 | 95 |
| Loess Plains | 50-62 | 89 |
| Stone Pillar Cave | 55-62 | 78 |
| Emberstone Plateau | 50-66 | 72 |
| Hidden Passage to the Oculus Gate | 56-63 | 62 |
Smokie work suitability and drops
Smokie has Gathering 2 in Palworld 1.0, and drops Ancient Civilization Parts and Chromite when killed or caught. Those levels and the drop rows come from our own export of the game's tables.
What Smokie is actually for once it hatches
Gathering 2 is the best it does, which is base filler out of a ceiling of 8. Check best Gathering pals for anything that does it properly. It works through the night, when the rest of the base is asleep.
Smokie active skills and partner skill
Smokie learns 10 active skills as it levels, the last at level 70. Its partner skill is Dig, Smokie! Dig!. That learnset is our own export of the game's level table, cooldowns and all.

What Smokie breeds into as a parent
Paired with other species, Smokie produces 95 different children, the rarest of them Menasting and Kingpaca. A parent that wide is worth a farm slot on its own.
Smokie breeding FAQ
- Can you breed Smokie in Palworld?
- Yes. 260 pairs produce Smokie in the Palworld 1.0 breeding table. Both parents have to be opposite genders, in a breeding farm, with cake in the feed box. The cheapest of those pairs is Digtoise and Foxcicle, and the egg then needs an egg incubator to hatch.
- What two Pals make Smokie in Palworld?
- Digtoise and Foxcicle, opposite genders. Both are catchable in the wild from about level 17, which makes it the cheapest of the 260 pairs that produce Smokie. Every other pair is listed on this page. Both parents average to its breed rank of 1760.
- Can you catch Smokie in the wild in Palworld 1.0?
- Yes, at level 30-66. Its spawn points fall inside 13 named regions, the densest Deserted Ash Plateau, where they run level 56-62. There is also an alpha Smokie at level 60, which beats waiting on a spawn. The map on this page marks 1702 spawn points for it in total.
- Are these Smokie breeding combos updated for Palworld 1.0?
- Yes. Every pair here comes out of the game's real 44,849-pair table, shipped verbatim rather than approximated. All 260 of Smokie's pairs are in the list, with the easiest 120 shown. Panthalus and Panthalus is the usual tell of a stale list, and the game's tables rule it out.
- Can Smokie be bred in the early game?
- The cheapest pair needs a level 17 catch, so yes, comfortably. From a starter box the chain runs 3 steps, opening with Eikthyrdeer and Hangyu. Anything you already own further along shortens it, which is the part loading your own save changes.
- Can Smokie inherit all four passive skills from one egg?
- Only if both parents' combined pool is exactly those four. Smokie is born with no fixed passive, so all four slots are open, and a pair like Digtoise and Foxcicle has to carry nothing else. A clean four-passive pool is 10% per egg, about 22 eggs for a 90% shot.
Route this pair from your own save
Pal Hatchery reads your Level.sav in your browser and tells you which half of the Digtoise and Foxcicle pair you already own.
It reads genders, levels and passive skills off the save, then routes from there. Nothing is uploaded.
