Gender odds on a Shadowbeak pair

You need two Shadowbeak in the farm at once, one of each gender. Shadowbeak hatches 50% male, so a coin flip either way. Two of the same gender in a breeding farm produces nothing at all, however right the pair is.

Paldex entry

“Born from the depths of insanity, its very existence defies reason. Having lost all genetic ties to other Pals, one wonders if it could still even be considered a Pal.”

Shadowbeak is a Dark-type pal whose only entry in the Palworld 1.0 breeding table is two Shadowbeak. No chain of other species reaches it. Once two are in your box, pairing them rolls passive skills rather than producing a species you did not have. Wild ones sit at level 50-80. Best jobs: Gathering 2.

The only parent combination for Shadowbeak

Two Shadowbeak is the only pair the Palworld 1.0 table gives, and a pair of them averages to its own breed rank of 550. Opposite genders, cake in the breeding farm, then the egg goes in an egg incubator. You need both in the farm at the same time.

Why an older Shadowbeak combo list won't work

Pre-1.0 guides name a recipe. The 1.0 table works on averages: a pair produces a child when the parents' breed ranks average to the child's, and Shadowbeak sits at 550 with only itself hitting that number. Any older list naming two different species for it is quoting a table that no longer ships.

Ours is the game's real 44,849-pair table, shipped verbatim rather than approximated from the rank formula. The 19,044 figure still in circulation is 138 squared, the pre-1.0 roster of base forms counted as ordered pairs, so it measures something else. One pair shows the difference. Every calculator downstream of palcalc ships Panthalus and Panthalus as breeding true, and the game's own tables prove it cannot, because that pair yields Aegidron.

The shortest breeding path to Shadowbeak

No chain of starter pals reaches Shadowbeak inside six generations, so the first one has to be caught at level 50-80.

Shadowbeak passive skill odds per egg

A clean four-passive pool across both parents gives 10.0% per Shadowbeak egg, which is about 22 eggs for a 90% shot at all four. Every extra passive skill on either parent lowers it.

One junk passive on a parent can double the eggs you need. The per-egg column is the chance every passive skill you want lands on the egg, with random extras allowed. The roll behind these numbers is worked through in passive inheritance odds for two parents of the same species, and the planner ranks the pairs in your own box by them.

Is Shadowbeak worth breeding, or should you catch one?

Catch one, because breeding cannot start it. Shadowbeak spawns at level 50-80, and no pair of two different species hatches one. Nothing in a starter box reaches it inside six generations.

Breed it anyway once two are in the box. Pairing them rolls passive skills, which is the only thing breeding can still give you here.

Where to find Shadowbeak in the wild

Shadowbeak spawns in Wildlife Sanctuary 3, the one named region its markers land in, at level 50-55. Another 5 of its spawn points sit outside every named region.

Shadowbeak work suitability and drops

Shadowbeak has Gathering 2 in Palworld 1.0, and drops Ancient Civilization Parts and Carbon Fiber when killed or caught. Those levels and the drop rows come from our own export of the game's tables.

What Shadowbeak is actually for once it hatches

Gathering 2 is the best it does, which is base filler out of a ceiling of 8. Check best Gathering pals for anything that does it properly. It works through the night, when the rest of the base is asleep. At rarity 10 of 20 you will not trip over one.

Shadowbeak active skills and partner skill

Shadowbeak learns 9 active skills as it levels, the last at level 70. Its partner skill is Modified DNA. That learnset is our own export of the game's level table, cooldowns and all.

What Shadowbeak breeds into as a parent

Paired with other species, Shadowbeak produces 81 different children, the rarest of them Anubis and Menasting. A parent that wide is worth a farm slot on its own.

Shadowbeak breeding FAQ

Can you breed Shadowbeak in Palworld?
Not from any other species. The only pairing in the Palworld 1.0 table that produces Shadowbeak is two Shadowbeak, opposite genders, with cake in the breeding farm. You have to obtain the first one some other way before breeding is an option at all.
Can you catch Shadowbeak in the wild in Palworld 1.0?
Yes, at level 50-80. Its spawn points fall inside one named region, Wildlife Sanctuary 3, where they run level 50-55. There is no alpha Shadowbeak, so field spawns are the only source of one. The map on this page marks 11 spawn points for it in total.
Are these Shadowbeak breeding combos updated for Palworld 1.0?
Yes. The game's real 44,849-pair table gives Shadowbeak exactly one entry, two Shadowbeak, and no cross-species pair at all. Older lists naming two different species for it are quoting a table that no longer ships. Panthalus and Panthalus is the usual tell that a list is stale.
Can Shadowbeak be bred in the early game?
No. No chain of starter pals reaches Shadowbeak inside six generations, so the first one has to be caught at level 50-80. Two Shadowbeak is the only pair the 1.0 table holds for it, so breeding is what you do after the catch rather than instead of it.
Can Shadowbeak inherit all four passive skills from one egg?
Only if the two Shadowbeak you pair hold exactly those four between them. Shadowbeak is born with no fixed passive, so all four slots are open, and anything extra on either parent dilutes the draw. A clean four-passive pool is 10% per egg, about 22 eggs for a 90% shot.

Route this pair from your own save

Pal Hatchery reads your Level.sav in your browser and ranks your own Shadowbeak pairs by the passive skills they would actually pass on. It reads genders, levels and passive skills off the save, then routes from there. Nothing is uploaded.
